When should children have an eye test?

Children can have their eyes tested at any age, even before they can read. We usually recommend that every child has their first test before starting school, and then regular check-ups every two years — or more often if advised by your optometrist.

What happens in a Children’s Eye Test?

Vision Check

We assess your child’s ability to see clearly both up close and at a distance. If they already wear glasses, we’ll also check how well they are working.

Prescription Assessment

If your child needs glasses, we’ll carefully determine the correct prescription to support their learning and day-to-day activities.

Eye Health Examination

We gently examine the health of your child’s eyes to look for any early signs of conditions such as squints, lazy eye (amblyopia), or problems with eye development. Early detection makes treatment more effective.

Eye Muscle & Coordination Tests

We check how well your child’s eyes work together, ensuring healthy eye movement and coordination.
