Who is entitled to a free NHS eye test?
You may be entitled to a free NHS sight test if you are in one of the following groups:
Children under 16
Young people under 19 in full-time education
People aged 60 or over
People registered blind or partially sighted
People diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma
People aged 40 or over who are the parent, brother, sister or child of someone with glaucoma
People who have been advised by an eye doctor (ophthalmologist) that they are at risk of glaucoma
People receiving certain benefits, such as Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Pension Credit Guarantee Credit, or Universal Credit (depending on circumstances)

What happens in an NHS Eye Test?
Vision Check
We measure how clearly you see both near and far, with and without glasses if you already wear them.
Prescription Assessment
If you need corrective lenses, we determine your prescription so you can see as comfortably and clearly as possible.
Eye Health Examination
We examine the overall health of your eyes, checking for common problems and signs of conditions such as glaucoma or cataracts.
Lifestyle & Advice
Your optometrist will answer any questions you have, giving you advice on caring for your eyes and keeping your vision sharp.
